AT&T offers two popular Internet services including U-verse and DSL. Both offer high speed Internet access, but may not be available in all areas. Whether users are looking for quick access to emails or high speed gaming, AT&T Internet has plans to fit every user’s needs.
DSL Plans
AT&T offers four types of DSL plans. Prices range from $14.95 to $19.95 per month (limited time promo prices) and may vary depending on current special offers and bundle deals. For the best price, a one year commitment is usually required. DSL Lite is the cheapest plan and perfect for small downloads, checking email and basic web surfing. Downstream speeds max out at 768 Kbps.
For faster speeds, users can choose DSL Ultra for speeds up to 1.5 Mbps. For better photo sharing, music downloads and online gaming, AT&T offers up DSL Xtreme with speeds up to 3.0 Mbps. This package works well for most users, though those looking for even faster speeds can choose speeds up to 6.0 Mbps with DSL Extreme 6.0.
DSL plans do require AT&T phone service as service is delivered through digital phone lines. All plans include access to AT&T’s wireless network.
U-verse Plans
Users will notice a major difference between DSL and U-verse when they look at the available speeds. U-verse is perfect for full home networking with absolutely no lag in speed. All plans offer full security to keep the Internet as safe as possible for the whole family.
Prices are higher with the fastest plan costing $44.95 per month with a one year commitment (price may change at any time). Users have access to five different plans. The first two will remind users of the fastest DSL plans, but with more efficient equipment which provides users to new features only available with U-verse. These plans are Pro and Elite, offering speeds up to 3 Mbps and 6 Mbps respectively.
The difference begins with the Max plan. This plan doubles the Elite speed for fast online multi-tasking. For those looking to stream videos, listen to music and download large files, the Max Plus plan may be best. Speeds are extremely fast with downstream speeds up to 18 Mbps. For those who want the fastest speeds possible for online streaming and game play, there is Max Turbo with speeds up to 24 Mbps.
An update to this post as U-verse Internet has evolved to even higher speeds, as follows:
U-verse Power Internet going up to 45 Mbps, U-verse 75 Internet with speeds of up to 75 Mbps, and finally GigaPower Internet that goes up to 1 Gbps (1 Gigabit per second, or 1,000 Megabits per one second).
U-verse Internet plans may cost more, but the speed difference opens up an entirely new world to Internet users. No longer do they need to choose between tasks. They can do it all with no lag.
AT&T Internet Speed tiers are regularly updated as the technology advances and changes.
If I have DSL at 3mbps and I get UVerse at 1.5mbps they tell me the UVerse will be faster even though the speed says it is half… is this true?
